State Farm Southern Zone Youth Advisory Board

In 2006 State Farm started a youth-led grant-making board for the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Each year this group of 9 board members gives out $75,000 in service-learning grants to teachers, students, and staff at public K-12 schools, across these four states.

Richland 2's Ms. Beverly Hiott was a key impetus for the creation of the Board and Nick Metrakos is one of its current co-chairs and a founding member. Within Richland 2, two schools have received grants from the State Farm Southern Zone YAB: Richland Northeast High School and Blythewood High School.
